A couple of years after the introduction of styrofoam ceiling tiles on sale, it could be seen in every second apartment. It seems to be “out of fashion” now, but, in my humble opinion, there is no more economical and easy-to-install finishing material for the ceiling. I have always preferred natural materials: natural wood clapboard to vinyl siding, wooden parquet to laminate, and I used only plaster for the ceiling decor. However, when repairing the bathroom, it turned out differently.<\/p>\n
What happened before the renovation
\nPreviously, the ceiling was covered with whitewash, which lasted for many years until there was a water leak from the neighbors above. As a result, yellow spots appeared even through putty and whitewash. Attempts to remove this defect did not lead to anything.<\/p>\n
The suspended structure would avoid such problems in the future. I have already had experience with its device made of 50 \u00d7 50 cm plastic tiles and a rack-and-pinion profile, in which small halogen lamps are usually installed. And I was already inclined to do something similar.<\/p>\n

Properties of expanded polystyrene
\nOn my next visit to the building materials store, I still went into the department selling styrofoam ceiling tiles. As it turned out, the material has many advantages:<\/p>\n
tiles are not afraid of moisture, they can even be washed;
\naccording to the manufacturers, this is an environmentally friendly product with an antistatic coating;
\na wide range of colors and a variety of options for profile elements allow you to implement different design solutions;
\nthe dimensions of the elements are stable;
\nthe tiles are almost weightless, they are easy to cut with an ordinary knife, quick and convenient to install;
\nIt is very easy to replace a damaged item;
\nThe tiles have good thermal and sound insulation properties;
\ndecorative profile elements (baseboards) they allow you to quickly and beautifully arrange the connection of tiled walls to the ceiling;<\/p>\n
\nin case of small leaks, it is enough to remove moisture through the joints between the tiles.<\/p>\n
Finally, the cost of the material and the work on its installation is several times less than with other finishing options. Two packages of tiles of different colors (2m2 each) and a tube of glue cost me 300 rubles at the time of repair. A suspended ceiling made of aluminum rack profile with the same area would cost about 3,000 rubles.<\/p>\n
The time of installation and labor costs are incomparable. In general, styrofoam tiles seemed very suitable for finishing the ceiling in the bathroom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
